Let’s Look at Negatives!

I photographed local desert plants outdoors, using only natural light. Each image was then color-inverted, so what you see is the negative of the original photograph. In this process, the negative dictates the color: green becomes purple, yellow turns blue, black converts to white.

The most exciting transformation happens with light itself—shadows invert into highlights, and highlights fall back into shadow. From there, I selectively adjust the intensity of individual colors, letting certain elements push forward while others recede.

Not every subject survives this treatment! Some experiments turned outright ugly and went to the bin. But when it works, the transformation feels alive.

My intention is to make our desert plants feel fun and a little wacky. If you smile then it is a success :)
